The Rivière de Labouiche, the underground Venice of the Ariège

Nicknamed the “Underground Venice of the Pyrenees”, the Rivière de Labouiche is Europe’s longest navigable underground river open to the public. Located near Foix, this natural wonder offers an enchanting 1.5 km boat ride 60 meters underground.

The tour, punctuated by spectacular concretions, waterfalls and vast chambers, reveals a fascinating underground world sculpted by water over the millennia. Between sparkling stalactites and astonishing rock formations, the visit is a timeless immersion in the depths of the Ariège.

From Camping l’Arize, the Rivière de Labouiche can be reached in 30 minutes by car. For a gentler option, it’s possible to get there via the Voie Verte Foix – Saint-Girons, offering a beautiful bike ride in the heart of the Ariège countryside.
